SHAKA ZULU
Located in the ever-up rising town that is Camden, Shaka Zulu boasts amazing decor and flaunts some traditional South African cuisine.
On arrival my guest and I were greeted by the friendly hostess, dressed in a modern take on African fashion with a printed dress, she ushered us to our table on the ground floor. We were seated at a booth by the bar where we had a full view of the restaurant at what seemed like its busiest hour.
After a high recommendation of the Kloovenburg Merlot 2007 to drink we opted for the only hot starter on the menu; Braised Lamb Shank Samosa and the Rooibos Tea Smoke Salmon which was served with pickled cucumber, horseradish, pea shoots and soda bread.
For the main course I ordered the spit roast of the day; lamb, which had been cooking for five hours accompanied by piri piri, fries and chakalaka, it was very juicy but the fries where a little sharp and too crispy. My guest ordered the Veal Chop; the perfect cut of meat; but for £27 it came without sides and the waiter recommended she order something to accompany it.
To top off the evening we had chocolate and raspberry trifle which was thick and creamy, and the sweet custard in the middle made it delightfully tasty. Overall it was a great experience and the authentic African scene along with funky rhythms in the background made the evening enjoyable and entertaining. Great for after work drinks or an evening out with friends.
